On Tuesday, November 8, 2016, I was 20 weeks pregnant with my first child. What I imagined would be an historic night became just that, but not in the way I expected. These last four years have been marked by sadness and disappointment for many, yet for me, they are also the years I became a parent. Now, I wonder how we’ll explain this time—a period marked by division and amplified hatred. As a parent, my hope is that kindness, compassion, and empathy will prevail, and that in four years, we will emerge as better people.
